New Blood and Chrome Trailer Finally Released

After a very long time of whispers and rumors we finally have confirmation that the prequel to the 2004 Sci-Fi series, Battlestar Galactica, is finally happening! Blood and Chrome is said to take place in year ten of the first Cylon war and follows young William Adama on what was then the new Battlestar Galactica. At first when I heard about this series I was a bit skeptical and kept seeing the image of a dead horse being beaten over and over in my head. However, when I finally watched the trailer and heard Atticus Ross’ and Trent Reznor’s version of Immigrant Song  playing I felt like I had been taken to a Geek’s paradise. No joke. Just watch the trailer and find out for yourself. It will possibly blow your mind and give you what I like to call “geek boner” for a solid month.

UPDATE: Unfortunately it seems like every video that was on YouTube is no longer available. Check back later for another update.

Magnificent Mondays-The Geektastic Wedding Edition

Today we at Doctor Geekly are launching a weekly segment called Magnificent Mondays where we show you various ideas around the ‘net that can make your wedding, birthday, holidays, or any party in general simply Geektastic. Does your little one want a Superman themed party but you don’t want to be generic and just buy what they have at your local part store? We got you covered! Are you planning an all around Geek-themed wedding but don’t know where to start? Again, we have you covered!

We’re like Pinterest, except we don’t bend you over and screw you with our terms of service. Though we do ask that you give credit to the individuals we link to, pretty please. Don’t make me get my nephew out here to say “peas” in his adorable voice. You’ll melt into a pile of cuteness overload goo for certain.

Today’s theme is weddings! And what better way to start it off than by showing off some adorable crafts from Etsy!

Etsy shop owner CreativeButterflyXoX has created these wonderful cake toppers out of peg dolls. There are a wide variety of these cake toppers but this has to be my favorite:

For only $63 plus shipping these adorably cute cake toppers can make your superhero themed wedding complete! (Click the image for more details.)

Want to look all dolled up for your Mister J?  Uniquely Yours Bridal has you all set with this Harley Quinn themed garter belt that will make the jokester in your life stop dead in his tracks. And at only $15 it’s a definite steal! (Click the picture for details.)

Need that finishing touch for your favorite dungeon master? Finds To Treasure has these 20 sided die cufflinks for $15 in various colors. (Click picture for details.)

These Star Trek champagne glasses from TheCraftyGeek86 are bound to be a great addition to the awkward Best Man toast. And they’re cheap too! Only $20 for the set.

Are you just looking for ideas to get your noodle going? Here’s a list of some of my favorite sites from when I was planning my own wedding. These sites aren’t necessarily centered around everything Geek but they’re all different and far from traditional.

Poptastic Bride – “Funky wedding ideas for cool couples!”

Offbeat Bride – Alternative ideas  to “altar your thinking!”

Geeky Wedding – A Tumblr loaded with great things to catch your fancy.

We look forward to seeing all the great, Geeky weddings in the future! It’s one of the most memorable days of your lives so why not make it fun and offbeat?

New Prometheus Trailer Serves Up Some Scares!

Ever since Prometheus was announced I have been ecstatic! Ridley Scott has always been a director after my Sci-Fi loving heart and he never disappoints.  Bonus points for Noomi Rapace as the main character Elizabeth Shaw. Watch the new trailer below and voice your opinions!

Lego Batman 2 Trailer Throws Some Punches

I squeed with delight after watching this trailer to the much anticipated sequel to Lego Batman. While it does include The Man of Steel himself, I’m curious to know if it will include Wonder Woman or any of the other Justice League members as well. If so, I’m pretty certain I can die happy…after I meet Amanda Tapping, of course.

New Dark Shadow’s Trailer

Tim Burton is known for doing fairly dark and creepy movies, and within the last several years he has done “remakes” of various films. Dark Shadows, a television series that ran from 1966 to 1977, has not become an exception. Yesterday the official trailer was released and reviews are mixed. However, this writer’s opinion is still on the fence since she’s never seen the original series.

But I’ll let you, the reader, decide for yourself!

Vaginal Fantasy Hangout

No, it’s not what you think, so you can get your mind out of the gutter right now! This is actually a book club ran by my favorite ladies in the industry: Felicia Day, Bonnie Burton, Kiala Kazebee, and Veronica Belmont. The books they suggest and read are what they (or rather Felicia, who coined the phrase) consider “Vaginal Fantasy.” Books that have a strong female lead in the romance world. And honestly, it’s amazing.

Each month the ladies get together on G+Hangout and discuss the book of the month over wine (and occasionally whiskey from a Buffy coffee mug) while having a great time chatting with guests in an IRC chat room. There have only been two ‘hangouts’ so far and both have been posted on Felicia’s YouTube for your viewing pleasure. I suggest you prepare yourself for the greatness you are about to witness and click the link.

This month’s book is Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh, which has this beautiful if not yummy cover:

Slave to Sensation

When Felicia suggested this book no one could say the title without stifling a giggle fit. But, there was an outcry for more ‘smut’ and she wanted to deliver. I’m only about 25% into this book and I have to admit it isn’t that bad. It has a fairly good plot and interesting characters. I won’t go into details but if you’re dying to know more, head on over to their Goodreads forum and their official site.

RIP Ralph Mcquarrie

Ralph McQuarrie, the conceptual artist who helped George Lucas make Star Wars with his amazing designs, passed on Saturday at the age of 82. Aside from his designs in Star Wars he also did designs for Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future, Total Recall, E.T., the original Battlestar Galactica, and Cocoon. He was a wonderful artist and I urge everyone reading this to check out his artwork.

Here’s a statement posted by Lucas himself on :

I am deeply saddened by the passing of such a visionary artist and such a humble man. Ralph McQuarrie was the first person I hired to help me envision Star Wars. His genial contribution, in the form of unequaled production paintings, propelled and inspired all of the cast and crew of the original Star Wars trilogy. When words could not convey my ideas, I could always point to one of Ralph’s fabulous illustrations and say, ‘Do it like this.’

“Beyond the movies, his artwork has inspired at least two generations of younger artists—all of whom learned through Ralph that movies are designed. Like me, they were thrilled by his keen eye and creative imagination, which always brought concepts to their most ideal plateau. In many ways, he was a generous father to a conceptual art revolution that was born of his artwork, and which seized the imaginations of thousands and propelled them into the film industry. In that way, we will all be benefiting from his oeuvre for generations to come. Beyond that, I will always remember him as a kind and patient, and wonderfully talented, friend and collaborator.

Geektastic Musical Battle: Doctor Who vs Sherlock

Thanks to Kyle Anderson over at Nerdist for sharing this video by Liisakee on YouTube. It features the Eleventh Doctor and Sherlock Holmes battling it out to “Anything you Can Do.” I have to admit, there was a snort in my giggle when I watched this.
